Slate
Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This large flower grows up to 6.1 feet (1.9 meters) tall. Its slate or olive stems grow in bunches of 7 and are very thin with a curved tip, and the giant, gray leaves are broad, flat with irregular edges. The leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.
2 to 4 tiny flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 57 cm (22.4 inches) wide, with petals that are black on the edges and yellow at the center. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 50 petals. They detach easily.
It has a delicate scent that smells like mint, and it has excessive amounts of pollen, but it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird.
It is almost impossible to grow indoors.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
It spreads easily and often blanket large areas.
