Vinefruit Tree

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 12 feet (3.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 18 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in fine, knobbly, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the soft wood is silver.

The tangled mess of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of large, fan-like leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are lime green with sky blue tips.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of large, magenta blossoms with spear shaped petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a powerful scent that smells like ashes.

In early summer it produces small, oblong fruit. The clammy muted green skin is thin and inedible, and the soft brilliant blue flesh is bitter and oily. The light grey seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
