Waterpine

Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)

This short tree grows up to 3 meters (9.8 feet) tall and lives for over 1,000 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 1653 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, wrinkled, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the very hard wood is pale brown-grey.

The small handful of branches are short stubs, with hundreds of twigs covered with thick bunches of miniature, yellow needles. The needles themselves are rigid.

In late summer it produces small, beige, spiky-shelled seeds.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
It is suitable for making paper
