Golden Starburst Caudex

This small caudiciform grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall. The narrow stem is brown, and is covered in sharp spines. It has a straight, narrow, slate trunk atop a thick block of waxy, exposed roots. The branches are slender and burgundy and trail down to the ground.

The toothed-edged, slender, pointed leaves are solid gold or dull green, with amber streaks. They are robust, and take little effort to detach.

It is fast growing, taking 3 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with petals that are slate on the edges and caramel at the center grows at the top, reappearing once every 8 years. The flower head is shaped like a star made up of 9 raised, round-tipped petals. It has a fairly strong scent that smells like freshly baked bread.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the washed-out yellow flesh is slimy, and the blue sap is thin.
