Vinefruit Tree

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 12 feet (3.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 58 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in fine, ridged, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the very dense wood is pale yellow.

The small handful of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with sparse amounts of huge, fan-like leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are pink and brown.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of medium-sized, vivid red blossoms with crescent-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a delicate scent that smells like perfume.

In early winter it produces very large, perforated fruit. The smooth muted green skin is stretchy and sweet, and the very soft gentle purple flesh is savoury and dry. The lime seeds are large and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
