Amaranthine Bloodfruit Tree
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This small fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 41 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a narrow, slanted trunk covered in paper-thin, rough, silver and white bark, and inside, the soft wood is burgundy.
The branches are short stubs and are covered with sparse amounts of small, perforated leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are generally magenta.
In early spring, it produces several medium-sized, blood red blossoms with 5 umbrella-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a delicate scent that smells like varnish.
In mid-summer it produces , wide fruit. The waxy violet skin is stretchy and spicy, and the crunchy blue flesh is salty and syrupy. The blood red seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.
The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
It can survive a long time without water.
