Desert Lily
Flower type: Perennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.8 feet (56 cm) tall. Its green stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 5 and are wispy and straight, and split into many branching stems a quarter of the way up, and the large, ashy green and lime green leaves are sickle shaped with serrated edges. A pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.
Each stem splits 3 to 5 times; a single giant flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 50 cm (19.7 inches) wide, with peach petals that gradient shift to amber on the outer edge. The central disk is peach. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 30 curved petals. They are sturdy.
It has an intense scent that smells like apple, and it has lots of pollen. It is pollinated by insects and is particularly attractive to butterflies.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
