Knobblyfruit
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 27 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in hard, knobbly, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the soft wood is yellow-brown.
The tangled mess of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with small amounts of tiny, stiff, pointed leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are solid muted red or aquamarine, with lilac streaks.
In early spring, it produces many large, light grey blossoms with cylindrical petals. They are hardy and have a weak scent that smells like rotten egg.
In mid-summer it produces tiny, slender, 5 pointed fruit. The hairy blue skin is tough and inedible, and the slightly crunchy bronze flesh is savoury and powdery. The brown seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.
The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.
Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.
It can flourish even in standing water.
The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
