Waterleaf

Shrub type: Coniferous (Stores water in its leaves)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 128 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has several narrow, crooked stems covered in paper-thin, smooth, yellow bark, and the wood inside is gray.

The branches are short stubs with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of small, needle-like, leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are hazel and red, robust and leathery.

In late spring it produces balls of medium-sized, brown blossoms with 2 oval-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a delicate scent that smells like bleach.

In late autumn tiny stiff, pointed fruits ripen. The sticky azure skin is thin and inedible, and the slightly crunchy cyan flesh is bitter and oily. The slate seeds are small and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
