Blue Spine Succulent

Succulent type: Leaf succulent (Stores water in its leaves)

This modest-sized leaf succulent grows up to 29 feet (8.8 meters) tall. The very narrow, elongated stem is orange-yellow, and is covered in sharp spines. The thick leaves are solid sky blue with pink patches. Handfuls of them grow on very thick, lilac branches that are tall, rigid and upright. The leaves are frail, but easily come away when pulled.

It is very slow growing, taking 40 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, several flowers with vivid yellow petals and a turquoise central disk grow at the top, reappearing after 8 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is shaped like a dish made up of several raised, round-tipped petals. It has a delicate scent that smells like faeces.

The leaf succulent's skin is thick, the beige flesh is rubbery, and the peach sap is thin.

It out-competes most other plants for nutrients and light.
