Garlic Petal Flower

Flower type: Annual (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized flower grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. Its lime green and hazel stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 4 and are thin and straight, and split into many branching stems halfway up, and the miniature, copper leaves are pleated with wavy edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Dozens of medium-sized flowers grow in bunches along the stem. The flowers are 6 cm (2.4 inches) wide, with solid brown petals decorated with ashy purple lines and a violet central disk. The flower head is shaped like a bowl made up of 6 raised, narrow petals. They fall easily.

It has a weak scent that smells like garlic, and it has excessive amounts of pollen; it can can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects , but is also visited by a small species of bird.
