Thornfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This big fruit tree grows up to 37 feet (11.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 63 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, curved trunk covered in hard, rough, brown bark, and inside, the very hard wood is burgundy-brown.

The numerous branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with very large amounts of huge, very thin leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are orange and black.

In early spring, it produces a handful of large, light grey blossoms with circular petals. They are very delicate and have a faint scent that smells like rotten eggs.

In late autumn it produces , arrow-shaped fruit. The hairy olive skin is delicate and edible when boiled; it is sweet and sour, and the crunchy blood red flesh is extremely sweet and very dry. The yellow seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
