Watermelon Iris

Flower type: Perennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This large flower grows up to 4.8 feet (1.5 meters) tall. Its gray-green stem is wispy and straight with a curved tip, and the huge, gray leaves are slender, pointed with smooth edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Each stem splits 2 to 5 times; a single medium-sized flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 20 cm (7.9 inches) wide, with turquoise petals on the lower layer and peach petals decorated with black dots on the inner layer. The central disk is brown. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 12 curved petals. They fall easily.

It has a powerful scent that smells like fermented fruit, and it has lots of pollen, but it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is also particularly attractive to bees.

It can flourish even in standing water.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
It comes in 55 varieties.
