Desert Lotus

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This huge flower grows up to 16.2 feet (4.9 meters) tall. Its red stem is thick, and the huge, grey or azure leaves are wispy with irregular edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Two small flowers sit at the end of each stem. The flowers are 21 cm (8.3 inches) wide, with alternating petals of bright green and lime, with a muted purple central disk. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 20 petals. They are sturdy.

It has the faintest scent that smells like grass cuttings, and it has copious amounts of pollen. It is a self-pollinator, but is also visited by some specific types of insect.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
It can grow in even the most barren lands.
Several parts of the fruit tree have medicinal properties.
