Silver Spine Cactus

This short cactus grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall. The very thick stem is silver, and is covered in large amounts of fine, blood red, hair-like spines.

It is fast growing, taking 4 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with petals that are magenta at the sides and dull blue at the center, grow at the top, reappearing after 5 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is largely flat with dozens of widely spaced round-tipped petals. It has a delicate scent that smells like rainy days.

The cactus's skin is thick, the muted purple flesh is slimy, and the azure sap is thin.
