Serpentine Agave

Succulent type: Leaf succulent (Stores water in its leaves)

This small leaf succulent grows up to 10 feet (3.0 meters) tall. The asymmetrical stem is yellow, and is covered in brittle cream spines. The smooth-edged, very thick leaves are a shade of green that gradient shifts to turquoise at the top. Large amounts of them grow from the base in alternating layers of 3, then 6, then 9, and so on. The leaves are light, and take little effort to detach.

It is slow growing, taking 45 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, several flowers with cream petals and a gold central disk grow at the top, reappearing after 6 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of 59 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight sphere. It has a faint scent that smells like something putrid.

The leaf succulent's skin is thick, the slate flesh is slimy, and the white sap is thin.

The grains are bitter, but very healthy and are suitable for boiling.
It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if cut.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
