Crimson Spineball

This short caudiciform grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall. The wispy stem is green, and is covered in brittle black spines. The round, green trunk can grow to as much as 8 feet (2.4 meters) in diameter. Its brown branches are short stubs.

The smooth-edged, very narrow and elongated leaves are generally crimson. They are soft and flexible, but are very difficult to pull away.

It is steady-growing, taking 15 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with magenta petals that gradient shift to blue on the outer edge. The central disk is lime, grow at the top, reappearing after 9 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 40 petals. It has a scent that varies in strength that smells like apple.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the olive flesh is waxy, and the turquoise sap is thin and causes vomiting if consumed.
