Waterstem Bush

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 85 years. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has dozens of long and flexible, straight stems covered in hard, wrinkled, dark green bark, and the wood inside is white.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright with thousands of twigs that and are covered with thick bunches of large, long, tapering, leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are silver and grey, frail and soft.

In mid-summer it produces handfuls of small, lilac flowers with sickle shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like bleach.
