Waterleaf

This small flower grows up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. Its red or indigo stem is very thick and straight with a curved tip, and the miniature, green leaves are asymmetrical with ripped edges. The leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.

Two large flowers sit at the end of the stem. The flowers are 1 cm (0.4 inches) wide, with petals that are either lilac or dark red, with a yellow center. The flower head is shaped like a cup with 13 widely spaced, narrow petals. They fall easily.

It has a delicate scent that smells like ashes, and it has copious amounts of pollen, but it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects and is particularly attractive to a specific species.
