Coniapple

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 14 feet (4.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 36 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a thick, crooked trunk covered in thick, smooth, light brown bark, and inside, the soft wood is dark brown.

The numerous branches are very long and thin and are covered with copious amounts of miniature, very narrow and elongated leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are found in turquoise and copper varieties.

In early spring, it produces many large, indigo blossoms with 8 V-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like a damp log.

In late summer it produces tiny, long, narrow fruit. The rough hazel skin is thin and inedible, and the crunchy crimson flesh is extremely savoury and powdery. The bright yellow seeds are small and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
