Emerald Spine Succulent
Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This large caudiciform grows up to 97 feet (29.6 meters) tall. The wide stem is emerald, and is covered in brittle white spines. The thick, gnarled, silver trunk can grow to as much as 97 feet (29.6 meters) in diameter. Its burgundy branches are tall, rigid and upright.
The toothed-edged, circular leaves are slate at the bottom and gold with lilac dots at the top. They are robust, but easily come away when pulled.
It is steady-growing, taking 9 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with each petal a slightly different shade of peach grows at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is made up of several petals in raised layers. It has a weak scent that smells like varnish.
The caudiciform's skin is delicate, the olive flesh is leathery, and the grey sap is thin.
