Golden Spine Succulent

This short caudiciform grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall. The very thin stem is copper or orange, and is covered in sharp spines. The curved, gold trunk can grow to as much as 2 feet (61.0 cm) in diameter at the top. Its green branches are very short, thin and wispy and start growing at the top the stem.

The large amounts of smooth-edged, wide leaves are found in blood red and blue varieties. They are strong, and are very difficult to pull away.

It is slow growing, taking 35 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with petals that are gold on the edges and yellow at the center, grow at the top, reappearing once every 9 years. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 20 curved petals. It has a strong scent that smells like apple.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the amber flesh is leathery, and the gentle blue sap is thin.
