Twistvine Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 18 feet (5.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 35 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, twisting trunk covered in very thick, smooth, dark green bark, and inside, the soft wood is mahogany-coloured.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with small bunches of large, heart-shaped leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are found in dark grey, dark brown and gentle red varieties.

In early spring, it produces several tiny, washed-out orange blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have an intense scent that smells like baby powder.

In early winter it produces , circular fruit. The rubbery orange skin is thick and edible when boiled; it is spicy, and the soft sky blue flesh is sweet and juicy. The light grey seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It is often home to a particular bird species.
