Indigo

This giant fruit tree grows up to 50 feet (15.2 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 27 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, twisting trunk covered in thin, knobbly, dark brown bark, and inside, the very dense wood is yellow.

The tangled mess of branches are long and thin and are covered with large amounts of tiny, perforated leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are found in indigo and brown varieties.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of small, peach blossoms with needle-like petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are hardy and have a fairly strong scent that smells like burning wood.

In mid-autumn it produces , wide fruit. The sticky white skin is delicate and sweet, and the soft grey flesh is salty and syrupy. The deep green seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
