Copperleaf

This large shrub grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 161 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has several knobbly, wavy stems covered in paper-thin, wrinkled, mahogany-coloured bark, and the wood inside is copper-coloured.

The branches are very long and slender with dozens of twigs that and are covered with small bunches of miniature, thick, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either brilliant green or amber, with caramel patches, tough and waxy.

In late summer it produces large amounts of small, brilliant green flowers with broad, flat petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like paint.
