Indigo Daisy

Flower type: Perennial (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This big flower grows up to 6.4 feet (2.0 meters) tall. Its lime green stems grow in bunches of 6 and are wispy with a curved tip, and the large, burgundy leaves are light copper on the underside and are perforated with wavy edges. The leaves alternate on the stem.

Two giant flowers sit at the end of the stem. The flowers are 72 cm (28.3 inches) wide, with petals that are indigo in the center, dark grey in the middle and green at the edges. The flower head is shaped like a dish made up of 19 widely spaced, round-tipped petals. They detach easily.

It has a strong scent that smells like cheese, and it has very little pollen; it can cause allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator, but is also visited by a variety of insects.
