Indigo Starflower

Flower type: Annual (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This short flower grows up to 5 inches (13 cm) tall. Its pink stem is very thick and splits into 6 branching stems three quarters of the way up, and the miniature, emerald leaves are wispy with serrated edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Lots of small flowers grow along the length of the stem. The flowers are 12 cm (4.7 inches) wide, with each petal a slightly different shade of indigo. The flower head is shaped like a star made up of 18 widely spaced, round-tipped petals. They are sturdy.

It has a soft scent that smells like bleach, and it has very little pollen; it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator.

It spreads easily and often blanket large areas.
It can absorb up to 16 times its own weight in water.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
