This red moss is commonly found growing in medium-sized clumps In heathlands, and In marshes.
It is average-sized, growing up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. It forms in extensive patches, and is extremely flimsy.
When mature, emerald oval-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the mid-autumn to release hundred of spores.

The sap is vibrant green.
It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
It has impressive regenerative properties.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
