Indigo Tree
Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This small tree grows up to 2 meters (6.6 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 118 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.
It has a stocky, wonky trunk covered in cracked, gray bark, and inside, the light wood is dark brown.
The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of sticky, huge, circular leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are grey with black tips.
In early spring, it produces lots of small, indigo blossoms with pleated petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have a delicate scent that smells like damp.
In late summer it forms tiny, olive aril (seeds with fleshy covers).
The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.
Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
