Copper

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This large shrub grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 142 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous branched, angular stems covered in waxy, white with black speckled bark, and the wood inside is white.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright that and are covered with sparse amounts of large, very thick, leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are copper and caramel, light and covered in fine hairs.

In early spring it produces several large, aquamarine blossoms with perforated petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like pine needles.

In early autumn tiny asymmetrical fruits ripen. The leathery cyan skin is tough and edible when cooked; it is sweet, and the very soft amber flesh is sweet and spicy and powdery. The blood red seed is very large and sits at the end of the fruit.

It usually houses a colony of beneficial insects.
Ivy often grows along the trunk.
