Violetvine

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall and lives for around 13 years. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has dozens of long and flexible, wavy stems covered in hard, waxy, brown bark, and the wood inside is light brown.

The branches are short, rigid and upright with thousands of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of tiny, very thick, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are dark brown and brown, hardy and fuzzy.

In mid-summer it produces several medium-sized, violet blossoms with stiff, pointed petals. They detach easily and have a delicate scent that smells like rainy days.

In early autumn oval fruits ripen. The smooth yellow skin is tough and sweet, and the crunchy pink flesh is savoury and syrupy. The red seed is very large and sits at the end of the fruit.

It is suitable for making strong rope
It comes in 21 varieties.
It is almost impossible to grow indoors.
It coexists peacefully with other plants.
