This burgundy moss is commonly found growing in giant clumps In heathlands, and In rainforests.
It is short, growing up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. It forms in extensive patches, and is overwhelmingly durable.
When mature, emerald kidney-shaped capsules grow at the end of long, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early summer to release hundred of spores.

All of it is said to be part of one single, massive plant.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
