It takes 11 months for the emerald and gray stems to mature, by which point they sometimes have a diameter of 4 inches (10 cm) and are rough and fibrous.
The wide, smooth leaves reach up to 1.6 feet (48 cm) in length. They are either sky blue or violet, with slate edges, and have smooth edges.
It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
