Waterleaf Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This short fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 26 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in hard, rough, silver and white bark, and inside, the light wood is light brown.

The sparse patches of branches are very long and thick and are covered with large amounts of tiny, stiff, pointed leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are brilliant green and peach.

In early spring, it produces many balls of small, dark brown blossoms with fan-like petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a soft scent that smells like citrus.

In early summer it produces small, circular fruit. The rubbery red skin is tough and sweet, and the crunchy yellow flesh is salty and sour and very dry. The gold seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
