Silverfern

This colossal shrub grows up to 15 feet (4.6 meters) tall and lives for around 15 years. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has dozens of knobbly, wonky stems covered in paper-thin, rough, silver bark, and the wood inside is black.

The branches are long and thick with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of tiny, spear shaped, leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are dark orange and orange, soft and flexible and fuzzy.

In late summer it produces a handful of giant, turquoise blossoms with 7 umbrella-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like misty mornings.

In early autumn small stiff, pointed fruits ripen. The soft magenta skin is thin and inedible, and the very soft blood red flesh is bitter and oily. The light green seeds are small and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.
