Bloodfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This short fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 81 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, straight trunk covered in thin, silky, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is burgundy-brown.

The excessive amount of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with handfuls of small, very thick leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of gray that gradient shifts to blood red at the top.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of large, intense green blossoms with needle-like petals. They detach easily and have a fairly strong scent that smells like pepper.

In early summer it produces very large, oblong fruit. The rough gold skin is tough and inedible, and the crunchy beige flesh is extremely sour and very juicy. The dark red seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
