Caramel

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 47 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in waxy, gray bark, and inside, the very dense wood is burgundy.

The numerous branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with handfuls of small, very narrow and elongated leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are caramel and orange.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of tiny, light brown blossoms with spear shaped petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have a strong scent that smells like fruity.

In late autumn it produces large, broad, flat fruit. The leathery lime skin is tough and savoury, and the soft green flesh is sweet and sticky. The vivid green seeds are tiny and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
