Amberbell

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows the first year, flowers the second year, then dies)

This massive shrub grows up to 10 feet (3.0 meters) tall and lives for around 65 years. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has dozens of sturdy, curved stems covered in rough, silver bark, and the wood inside is burgundy-brown.

The branches are short and thin with thousands of twigs that and are covered with sparse amounts of giant, wide, leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are purple at the bottom and cream with amber streaks at the top, delicate and sticky.

In early spring it produces lots of medium-sized, purple blossoms with 5 pointed petals. They are hardy and have a strong scent that smells like leather.

In late autumn long, narrow fruits ripen. The hairy hazel skin is peel-able and spicy and salty, and the very soft violet flesh is bitter and powdery. The slate seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.

It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
