Slatefruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 32 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in thin, silky, light gray bark, and inside, the very dense wood is black with white speckles.

The tangled mess of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with very large amounts of tiny, very narrow and elongated leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are azure at the bottom and slate with copper streaks at the top.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of giant, light grey blossoms with 9 triangular shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a powerful scent that smells like apple.

In mid-autumn it produces , star-shaped fruit. The fuzzy slate skin is stretchy and inedible, and the very soft cream flesh is sweet and very juicy. The yellow seed is very large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.
