Bloodvine

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This big tree grows up to 63 meters (206.7 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 90 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, curved trunk covered in thin, waxy, dark brown bark, and inside, the soft wood is pale brown-grey.

The branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with copious amounts of clammy, tiny, pleated leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are blood red on the sides and white at the center.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of large, red blossoms with crescent-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have a soft scent that smells like an ocean breeze.

In late summer it forms giant, beige seed pods.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.

The sap is edible and slightly savoury.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
