Amber Spine Succulent

Succulent type: Leaf succulent (Stores water in its leaves)

This huge leaf succulent grows up to 137 feet (41.8 meters) tall. The pleated stem is amber, and is covered in handfuls of flexible cream spines. The smooth-edged, thick leaves are found in pale orange, grey and indigo varieties. Large amounts of them grow from the base in alternating layers of 2, then 4, then 6, and so on. The leaves are hardy, but detach easily.

It is fast growing, taking 4 months to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with alternating petals of peach and crimson, with a vivid blue central disk grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is shaped like a sphere made up of 19 raised, round-tipped petals. It has a weak scent that smells like alcohol.

The leaf succulent's skin is nearly impenetrable, the bright yellow flesh is rough, and the aquamarine sap is thin.
