Clinging Willowfern

This modest-sized tree grows up to 32 meters (105.0 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 177 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, curved trunk covered in cracked, brown bark, and inside, the soft wood is silver.

The sparse patches of branches are long and slender and are covered with sparse amounts of sticky, miniature, thick leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are black at the bottom and pale orange with red lines at the top.

In early spring, it produces many bunches of small, lime blossoms with pleated petals. They fall easily and have a strong scent that smells like a newborn baby.

In late summer it forms small, light brown aril (seeds with fleshy covers).

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.
