Bloodwood

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This short tree grows up to 5 meters (16.4 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 638 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, straight trunk covered in thick, ridged, yellow bark, and inside, the soft wood is black with white speckles.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of leathery, large, very thick leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are blood red on the sides and white at the center.

In late summer it forms small, blood red aril (seeds with fleshy covers).

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.

The grains are bitter, but very healthy and are suitable for boiling.
It only grows on the most fertile lands.
It is almost impossible to grow indoors.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
