Red Velvet

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small caudiciform grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall. The slender, pointed stem is gray, and is covered in thick sheets of rigid hazel spines. The straight, pastel red trunk can grow to as much as 2 feet (61.0 cm) in diameter at the bottom. Its lime green branches are long and slender and start growing halfway up the stem.

The small amounts of toothed-edged, circular leaves are either olive or hazel, with silver edges. They are delicate, but take little effort to detach.

It is very slow growing, taking 16 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with petals that are ashy green on the underside and dark purple on the top grows at the top, reappearing once every 5 years. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 27 petals. It has a weak scent that smells like old books.

The caudiciform's skin is thick, the crimson flesh is rough, and the muted blue sap is thin.

It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
