Copperberry

This large fruit tree grows up to 35 feet (10.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 20 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a stocky, wavy trunk covered in very thick, silky, burgundy bark, and inside, the very dense wood is copper-coloured.

The branches are short stubs and are covered with very large amounts of small, stiff, pointed leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are either gold or blood red, with red edges.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of tiny, gold blossoms with fan-like petals. They are very delicate and have an overpowering scent that smells like mint.

In early winter it produces tiny, stiff, pointed fruit. The rubbery gentle blue skin is tough and sweet, and the very soft violet flesh is savoury and powdery. The hazel seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
