Orange Spike

This short caudiciform grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall. The very thick stem is moss green or drab blue, and is covered in brittle pale yellow spines. The thick, light grey trunk can grow to as much as 2 feet (61.0 cm) in diameter. Its brown and hazel branches are short, thin and wispy.

The smooth-edged, spear shaped leaves are solid orange with light brown edges. They are frail, but are very difficult to pull away.

It is slow growing, taking 42 years to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with each petal a slightly different shade of drab blue grow at the top, reappearing once every 9 years. The flower head is shaped like a dish made up of dozens of tightly layered, round-tipped petals. It has an overpowering scent that smells like rotten eggs.

The caudiciform's skin is very thick, the white flesh is sticky, and the pink sap is thin.
