Copperfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 15 feet (4.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 17 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, straight trunk covered in silky, black bark, and inside, the dense wood is mahogany-coloured.

The branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with large amounts of giant, very thick leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are found in copper, hazel and orange varieties.

In early spring, it produces many medium-sized, sky blue blossoms with finger-like petals. They fall easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like onion.

In mid-autumn it produces small, oval fruit. The waxy grey skin is stretchy and inedible, and the crunchy lilac flesh is bitter and very juicy. The brilliant orange seeds are tiny and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
