Silverbell

Flower type: Annual (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small flower grows up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. Its silver stem is thick and straight with a curved tip, and the tiny, lime green leaves are grey on the underside and are perforated with wavy edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Each stem splits 5 to 7 times; a single giant flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 8 cm (3.1 inches) wide, with solid gold petals decorated with cream dots and a lime central disk. The flower head is made up of many petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight dish. They fall easily.

It has an overpowering scent that smells like faeces, and it has very little pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird.
