Copperberry

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 19 feet (5.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 33 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, straight trunk covered in fine, smooth, yellow bark, and inside, the flexible wood is pine-coloured.

The branches are short stubs and are covered with very large amounts of miniature, finger-like leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are hazel on the edges and copper at the center.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of small, dull orange blossoms with needle-like petals. They are sturdy and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like a newborn baby.

In mid-summer it produces tiny, long, curved fruit. The rubbery bold yellow skin is tough and extremely sour, and the slightly crunchy lime flesh is salty and syrupy. The cream seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
