Mahogany Sourfruit Tree

This large fruit tree grows up to 39 feet (11.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 70 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, wonky trunk covered in wrinkled, brown-green bark, and inside, the dense wood is mahogany-coloured.

The small handful of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with small bunches of huge, very narrow and elongated leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are dark brown and blood red.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of small, grey blossoms with finger-like petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a faint scent that smells like candle wax.

In mid-summer it produces tiny, perforated fruit. The waxy azure skin is thick and spicy and sour, and the soft bold yellow flesh is sour and very juicy. The bold orange seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
